Hi,

What do you think of the following idea?

We all know Chinese people are all over the world. Europe, Canada, United States, Australia, and in many Asian countries. We all roughly know the story of the Chinese community there because of television (series), movies, internet, holiday, study, excursion or because we live there.

But what about other parts of the world like South-America, the Caribbean, South-Africa, and the Middle-East. Are there Chinese there as well? And what is the Chinese community like? And why did they decide to settle/emigrate there? After all, the aforementioned continents are not the most wealthiest parts of the world...

That's what the radioprogram is all about. We interview the common ethnic Chinese male/female who are settled in those areas, and try to find out more about the "unknown" Chinese community in some parts of the world.

What has been accomplished so far
Thanks to a friend of mine, I have found a Chinese male living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, who is willing to be interviewed. However, he wants to do it in Chinese only. He didn't specifically state Mandarin or Cantonese, though.

I know a Chinese male on Curacao/Dutch Antilles, but he is not responding to my emails. So now I am asking another friend to see if he knows some Chinese people on Curacao.

It would be real neat if we have someone from Argentina and Curacao because of the connection of Holland with these two places.

The format
Should this program to be made, then the question would be: what is the target group of the program? I'd say all 3 groups (Mandarin, Cantonese and Dutch speakers). But the interviews are going to be either in Mandarin, Cantonese or English. So if there is one interview in Mandarin, another one in Cantonese, then we might have a problem.

yes, a good idea.

I assure there is chinese everywhere all over the world.
No matter where I travel, I always can find several local chinese restaurants, in South Africa, small Teneriff & Lanzorate islands (Spain), Rhodoes island (Greece)...
I tried to talk with them and they were quite nice to me, maybe because I am a customer. I found out they are mostly from Fujian province, more from south of China than from North. Chinese restaurant is the main business.
Unluckily, I didn't make them into my friends good enough that I can interview them. Maybe we can start such radio program from overseas chinese restaurants. and next time, where we travel to a new country, try to make an interview with the local chinese restaurant people.
what do you think?

Chinese are indeed anywhere. I have old classmates who are now in Africa, Turkey and Iran. I also heard even they are working on the Pacific islands like Papua New Guinea. I can arrange interviews with my old friends in Turkey and Iran. One of them work for Xinhua and the other for a Chinese company.
